Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails has relaunched the NIN Remix website, http://remix.nin.com/ (Firefox only) which allows fans to upload their own mixes of the band's songs. The site provides master recordings of NIN material, enabling fans to remix the songs, upload them, and have them rated by other members of the community.
Although Universal - owner of the band's former label Interscope - pulled the website just a few days before, Reznor has launched the site by hosting it on his own web servers.
The site was originally pulled because Universal are suing Myspace and Youtube for users uploading copyrighted material to the websites. The label therefore decided they couldn't support Reznor's site as there was a chance users could use samples that Universal don't own in their remixes, and upload them to the site. Universal didn't want to be seen supporting activity on its own websites that it says is illegal (under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act) http://www.gseis.ucla.edu/iclp/dmca1.htm on other websites.
While Reznor voiced concerns over hosting the website himself due to the legal implications, he has launched the site regardless, which he hopes will become the place "for all fan remix material and other interactive fan experiences."
Very cool and very risky at the same time. Go Trent !! I loved reading this test process he tried out in the real world. Very interesting, I'm wondering if just more people would retrain their mind set as to what free is and to whom actually pockets the majority part of the pie that perhaps they will come around to this process he is talking off and perhaps then that percentage may drastically go up. Like to see him try this same approach a few more time in just the same way he did this one and then measure the climb on it overall. I admire his efforts emmensley.

I thought this was a pretty good write up on the Record Stores on Wired's Web Site. I also believe prices for CD's could go way way down still and still turn a very high profit for the Music Industry in general.

I'm sure the list goes on and on.
Well it's really not all about who has been nominated or should I say voted in or how much one has sold of their music. It is also about who wants to pay for the entry and the politics shuffle dance that goes with it. Here is an excerpt from the Wikipedia on the 2007 Rock Hall of Fame Critacism article.
"The main criticism is that the nomination process is controlled by a few individuals, such as founder Jann Wenner, former foundation director Suzan Evans, and writer Dave Marsh, reflecting their tastes rather than the views of the rock world as a whole. A former member of the nominations board once said:
At one point Suzan Evans lamented the choices being made because there weren't enough big names that would sell tickets to the dinner. That was quickly remedied by dropping one of the doo-wop groups being considered in favor of a 'name' artist ... I saw how certain pioneering artists of the 50s and early 60s were shunned because there needed to be more name power on the list, resulting in 70s superstars getting in before the people who made it possible for them. Some of those pioneers still aren't in today — but Queen is.[4]
Petitions with tens of thousands of signatures were also being ignored and some groups that were signed with certain labels or companies or were affiliated with various committee members have even been put up for nomination with no discussion at all.[4]
Another criticism is that too many artists are inducted, allowing for several lesser acts to make it in. In fifteen years, 97 different artists have been inducted. A minimum of 50% of the vote is needed to be inducted, although the final percentages are not announced and a certain number of inductees (5 in 2007) is set before the ballots are shipped.[5] The committee usually nominates a small number of artists (9 in 2007) and they are coming from an increasing number of different genres. Several voters, including Joel Selvin, who himself is a former member of the nominating committee, didn't submit their ballots in 2007, with the reason being that they didn't feel any of the candidates were truly worthy.[6]
There are very few progressive rock bands in the hall, with Pink Floyd[7] being the only true progressive rock group inducted. This has been noted by the columnist John Sinkevics, who notes the genre has more fan backing than any other.[7]
The Sex Pistols, inducted in 2006, refused to attend the ceremony, calling the museum a "piss stain."[8]"

It looks like the ones who make the decisions on this are the Sony People and Atlantic Record Executives?
