How did you produce this? Taking a drumloop and then filtering it - which software? Or even generating the drumloop via MIDI before?
I'm asking because sometimes I need a certain drumloop. Then I create a loop in Audacity by combining different single samples (kick, snare, hihat-close, etc) which I extracted as WAVs from demos a while ago. It's not a big deal, but I think there are other ways to produce drumloops. Maybe you know a decent tool to use for such things?
The drums on this track come from my Korg X50 synth. It's a combi program called "drum construction". It consists of four different drum kits layed out across the keyboard with an the arp playing a pattern when the first key is hit. The processing is on the individual kits: Tricky Kit, Psycho Pitch Kit, Ugly House Kit, and Hip Hop Kit. With a master reverb and flange. To play the track, I familiarized myself with how the drums were set up across the keyboard, what sound was where, and started playing. It was recorded on the Reaper sequencer in one take (after a few practice runs). It does get haphazard at times because it's easy to miss a key that I want to hit. And admittedly some sections of the song were random note strikes - and I think I overwhelmed the polyphonic capabilities in the one point where the track drops out for a couple of beats.
I also use the Hammerhead drum machine sometimes, (software drum machine), I midi drums from the synth on Reaper's piano roll editor. I use loops sometimes too. I'm looking into getting a Korg PadKontrol to use for drum playing. It may be easier to have the sounds I want to play layed out more closely together. On the synth, each drum kit covers the full keyboard and the sounds I want to play my not be close enough together to play well. Check out my blog post titled "PadKontrol" for a demo of someone using it to control drums.
