I have an early birthday (b-day is in July) gift on the way. An Alesis Micron synth! I've always liked them, but I wanted a more full sized synth first. (my Korg x50). I went ahead and got it because I'm having soft synth withdrawal with my other computer not running yet. I needed something new to play!
I tried sequencing a song on the old computer. Yep, three tracks and it was struggling. Frustrating. I was liking where it was going. I was using a new soft synth I found called Synplant. Interesting synth, and by itself at least, it ran ok on the clunker pc. I'll see if I can work something out from it though it may have to be rather simplistic. I might can get another track onto it or try recording live instead of midi. That requires hooking up more wires - again!

Studio Time
I think it might be time for you to build your own studio maybe. Keep all of your instruments hooked up and ready to go. There is nothing more frustrating than having a moment of creative juice with no cup readily available to pour it into. The inspiration is choked by hooking up cables and the sort. This is what happened to me with that rough draft RIAA song. I was in the inspirational mood only to find myself stuck with a noisy amp and a mixer that got all messed up from its presets that took me awhile to set back up the way I had them.

Bad News - Good News
Bad news: the Q6600 CPU that's in my computer and I am trying to replace is no longer available. (Insert profanity towards Dell) So I am going to see about upgrading to the Q8400 or Q9400. I think my Dell's system BIOS will support these processors, they are the ones being offered now in a current Inspiron 530 build, and the BIOS is the same for my 530 and the new 530. Hopefully it will work!
Good News: I got the Micron today! I haven't played it yet, there's no way to hear it at work. I need an adapter, I'll bring one back from home after lunch.
Also good news: My wife is getting a huge bonus at work in the fall sometime. I think she's going to let me use some of it to buy a music computer! YAY! I just hope I don't have to wait that long to get back recording! I'll do something with a Micron set up and just record it straight to one track perhaps.
