"Hell is Forging My sword Below" is a concept song WIP. It was made from some very low fi loops. The Song idea is more like an industrial/Goth mix. Imagine those creatures from the Lord of The Rings all in unison crafting swords from the molten pits of hell. They are all moving to the beat of this WIP and clanging their swords together to rid it of the ash and molten debris. This is the idea I had in my head while creating this tune. I would like to not use this actual file in the rework but instead try to come up with actual part replacements or compliments but whatever works is good enough. It's all for fun with this one.

Mystic goth weapon industry

Wow, that's creepy, and essentially breeding a praemedieval weapon factory atmosphere filled with fireplaces, anvils, steam and loads of strange creatures soaked with sweat.
I love these monotone patterns, sounds like a locked up animal circling in its cage.

Guess I could prepare a basic MIDI track to assign it with weird industrial noises and sounds. Then we can build other structures upon.
Already have an idea with the melody... it should run through like a backbone while different chord clusters are dancing around.

MIDI demo

Just in case someone is interested to collaborate: I uploaded 16 bars of MIDI (File2.mid) to play with; it's the beginning part.
Of course a common MIDI instrumentation turns out rather humble, so I created an MP3 version (File3.mp3) as well, using soundfonts, which gives a better impression of how the tune could sound like.

Before I forget...
Tempo: 105 BPM
Key: D minor (or F major)
Chording: mainly D minor, sometimes with 'e' or 'a' in bass (surrogate for dominant chord A minor in this case)

File 3

Yes I like the file three as a base track to work with I am going to partition it to how I think in my head that the Vocal part should be. I originally had a vocal instinct to follow the original bass line, it might sound good up against your track. Also I am going to extract some of the original drum/sword sound to fit as well. We will probably be putting up these songs and run them through a sorta community voting system later on to see which ones we would like to include in a Jamacast Collective CD Project down the road. We will use the track album reference as you did in your earlier song, where you named the Album jamacast or jamacollab etc, I like that.

File 4 + 5File 4 + 5

==== File4
2-bar-drumloop, enhanced (pseudo) stereo effect

==== File5
You asked for alternate chords. Depending on the melody loop, in which the notes 'a' and 'd' are dominating, there's 8 matching chords (other than the basic Dm) available: Cm, C, Esus, F, F#m, G, Bb, Bm.
Sequenced them in File5, each with 1 bar length and headed by 1 bar of Dm (for comparison), so the whole 16-bar structure is:
Dm - Cm - Dm - C - Dm - Esus - Dm - F - Dm - F#m - Dm - G - Dm - Bb - Dm - Bm

You can also split and recombine the bars (100800 samples each @ 44100 kHz) in audacity to check out any variations, e.g. to try out singing melodies.

File 6 + 7 + 8 (ambient metallic pads)

Some background noises to create a haunting primitive-industrial atmo.

Searched on www.freesound.org for "metal rattle"; found a couple of iron gate recordings with nice old, rusty and metallic noises.

What I did in audacity:
1. half speed (= octave down)
2. GVerb: added a good amount of reverberation
3. Compressor: amplify low volume areas

File 12 (Spoken Word Lyrics)

Playing around with voice and came up with a spoken voice for the lyrics which expresses what the song was about in my head. It has meaning but is also abstract.

File 16 Mix without lyrics

Here is file 16 which represents my final mix without singing lyrics. At location 2:25 into the song where it makes the major change over, eventually the following lyrics will be added. Unless someone else would like to put in their own, thats ok too. Also the ending needs to be shortened a bit. Probably will do this after the lyrics are put in.

Lyrics to be integrated at location 2:25:

1 { In the caverns of hell, there is no light to see you by}
1 { It's all of the heat and sound that guides you through}

2 { You never know what you will find or who you will meet}
2 { It's a battle of wits, blood and gore all of the time}
2 {never take a look to see what you have just stricken down}

1 {for if you were to cry you would surely burn again}

2 {What would it take to be up above again}
2 {Can I fight for them and be saved once again}

1 {Hell is forging my sword}
1 {Hell is forging my sword}
2 {Hell is forging my sword}
2 {do you want to feel my blade}

Old site to new site

Well, I tried to transfer over the collaborative work from the old site, but ran into a file locking issue from the Collaborative file sharing code that is built into the Collaborative WIP feature. It will only allow for a user to check out the file once, then in order to check it out further, the user will have to wait for three days. After three days the user can continue to check out files. I also found no way to change the file owner from administrator to the real person when trying to upload other users files. So on this particular WIP I will over a period of time upload all of the pieces that were originally uploaded for others to play with if they would like. If you see the user files uploaded by MADMAX, just recognize those files as being actually Asaguares files on this song.

Get it going on !!!

My plate is very full, but I need to get it on with working on this album some more. I think I will mess around with it some more this weekend and see if I can create a few more stems to work with. Got some good ideas for the clash swords in the later part of the first chapter anyhow. We will see what I can work up. I will just be using Audacity for most of it, but as soon as I can get jack rack to work on my laptop I will fire up Ardour and tune up my bass to replace some parts for the second part. If I get real inspired I might even crank up the mic while I'm at it. Wish me luck I'll need it. I just have not been able to inspire lately, must give myself a harder push.

file locking problem

I fixed the file locking issue I earlier spoke of in an earlier comment. Let me know if any of you are experiencing problems with this feature.
