I'm still practicing my bass. I've recorded some things to see how I sound. I'm getting better, but nothing recorded worthy of posting yet. Do you really want to hear me playing something random to a drum track? I have some ideas coming from it though!
Some may know that I'm really into Progressive Rock, ok possibly obsessed sometimes, lol. But I've not yet really recorded something that could be called "progressive". Weird and strange maybe. So one of my fav internet radio stations is the Dividing Line Broadcast Network, they play all kinds of progressive rock. One show, The Critics Carnival, invites submissions of original material:
"If you are not afraid of a critical ear, please feel free to submit links of your own prog-rock songs or bands to the e-mail listed below! We will play your submissions at least once...If the audience likes them we'll keep them in rotation. Give us a try"
So I though it was about time I really had a try at doing a song that would fit into the Progressive category. Hopefully it will not take me forever to get it done. Maybe I'll start by loading up some of the odd time sig midi files that are in Addictive Drums and start to get a feel for it. While odd time sigs are not completely necessary for prog rock, they do kinda get you into a prog vibe. I suppose sometimes prog is hard to define, but you seem to know it when you hear it. The main thing is to use lots of Moog synthesizers! (just kidding!) :op
Perhaps I'm up for the challenge! (I've been doing the music thing for long enough now, and I need to start getting more recording done. I spend way too much time just noodling around - but that's fun too!)
If any of you think you have a some Prog-worthy music and you'd like to submit to the show, here's the link: http://www.thedividingline.com/cc.html
If you need some info about what constitutes Progressive Rock, see this link:

Note on submissions
Just a reminder. If you do decide to submit something to the Critics Carnival, make sure it's a Progressive type song. Standard rock, metal, blues, and all that are great, but not the station's format. I'm sure the quote means they will play your Prog-Rock song, it doesn't mean they will play your song regardless of the style. Though some songs I've heard here fit the categoy, I think! :) Also keep in mind the source of the material used for songs. Music most likely must be all original or from Creative Commons licensed material that can be used/broadcast without any legal considerations.
Progress on the Progressive
How is everything going on this prog-rock song? Work out some bass lines yet? This would be a little too much of a challenge for me I think, I would probably go off on some kind of drone in outer space.
Groove On!!!
Working on it
I'm still working on the progressive tune. I've mainly just been jamming along trying to work out some parts that could fit together. Yeah, I've got some good bass lines I've recorded. I'm getting a bit better at playing the bass cleanly... managed to do a pasable job on some Iron Maiden/Steve Harris galloping bass. (like in "The Trooper", for example). I try to have a bass practice session every night where I'll go into Napster and pick something to play along with. Going for different styles and such and work on technique. Then I'll start messing around working on the prog tune. I have no idea what direction it may go in just yet.
