They're mostly bowed or plugged strings, having simple yet interesting sounds. In spite of their frugal structure, Asiatic tunes have got a very profound, natural and acoustic flavour when interpreted by such instruments - which are seldom applied in other styles, eg. like triphop or jazz; nonetheless it's always worth a try.
