A little project

Necromanos's picture

Hey y'all! Since my computer is still working and my new pc isn't here yet for the album project, I've got a little something I'm going to work on.

I found a remix contest. It's pretty cool. They provide you with all the stem tracks, and you can use anywhere between all or none to do your mix. And you can distribute your remix freely - even sell it - as long as you credit the original artists. (Yes that would include uploading to Jamacast with no problems) Let's see what I can come up with! So far my plan is to just use the vocal tracks and redo everything else. It may take me a while - it's 30 individual tracks. I haven't yet worked out how I'm going to change it up. Just experimenting so far. I'll upload it when I'm done.

Vocal stem

Right today I was looking for some vocal stems and surprisingly found several remix contests as well. Alas most of them were hiphop/rap projects which means: male voice and typical quick (and slightly dirty) talking about social probs and trouble. Not at all the kind of stem I had been searching cos I needed a melodical female voice.
In the end I luckily hit a nice voc (ccmixter.org/files/dripmanila/18841), just fine for using it in an electronica/dance tune. I'm also toying with pitching and filtering now before developing a concept for instrumentation.

Oh and I've been talking to Of_The_Ego (splice mate) lately. He also reported me he thought about creating a series of songs for an album project - as soon as he had got a bit of spare time, nice coincidence.

Pop Song

The song I'm doing is a pop song by a duo. I'm almost done mixing the vocals. 8 tracks worth: 2 leads, 2 backing, all have l/r parts. The vocals were pretty much dry except for that auto tune vocoder trick in a couple of places. Not used excessive though. All else I've added so far is a basic drum track from Addictive drums - it still needs some spicing up, and some synth parts I'm trying out. I'm going to rerecord the guitars and try to come up with a different musical theme or something.

This is going to be good experience for when I'm working on my album. There's alot more tracks to deal with than I'm used to.
